Direct Energy Connecticut SMS Notification is a service offered by DE, a provider of electric service to residential customers. The Public Utility Regulatory Authority of Connecticut (“PURA CT”), the regulatory arm for electric utilities for the State of Connecticut, requires an SMS enabled cell phones of customers subscribed to receive electric service from DE to use said SMS cell phones as the communication vehicle to be informed of time sensitive information about their account and service contract including terms, rates, and conditions. This program is per compliance requirement of the Connecticut PURA Docket Number 13-07-18 that stipulates an option for the electric service customers to be able to request that notification of the upcoming changes in their service terms, rates, and contracts to be sent to their cell phones using an SMS message.
The PURA CT requires the customer to be able to receive the SMS messages as a part of their notifications. The use of SMS messages is an obligation of DE based on customer’s written consent to opt into this method of notification. This short code is only used for electric service rates or terms change related messaging.
